A NEW LIFE IN HUDDERSFIELD – MEMORIES OF PARTITION AND MIGRATION
OVERVIEW
The White Line is a heritage project developed by Let’s Go Yorkshire exploring local people’s stories of Partition and how it dramatically shaped the lives of South Asian migrants who eventually settled in Huddersfield. It commemorates a significant event in history focusing on how their experiences and narratives of Partition led directly to a second momentous migration to the UK. A New Life in Huddersfield interviewed ten of those migrants who settled in Huddersfield about their experiences. A copy of the film is held in the Yorkshire Film Archives, and the oral histories of those who took part are held at Heritage Quay, the archives for the University of Huddersfield.
CONSULTANT ROLE
I felt honoured to be asked to write an education pack helping teachers to address this complex subject with their pupils, linking in with the curriculum at key stage 2 and 3. This is an area of history that has had a great impact on a huge section of our community, and yet one that is rarely talked about. I certainly learned a lot in researching and developing the pack, which is downloadable free from the link below.
